Large oak mule chest. Dating from the XIII Century circa 1780 from the north of England. Made of oak with marquetry in boxwood and Cuban mahogany.
This furniture is called a 'Mule Chest' in England because they are neither a chest of drawers or a chest. The top lifts like a trunk and the top two drawers are false. They are the transitional furniture between a chest and a chest of drawers.
